Dr. Busichio is an expert in diagnosing and treating cognitive impairments stemming from both acquired conditions (such as stroke, dementia, and Traumatic Brain Injury) and developmental disorders, including ADHD. With a wealth of experience spanning more than two decades, Dr. Busichio has adeptly worked with a diverse clientele ranging from adults to children, conducting thorough cognitive evaluations and crafting tailored treatment strategies aimed at enhancing overall functional capacity. Beyond the clinical setting, Dr. Busichio is also recognized for providing authoritative forensic neuropsychology testimony when needed. This extensive background in TBI/PCS research, assessment, and patient care, coupled with a profound understanding of developmental disorders like ADHD, positions Dr. Busichio as a leading figure in the field, committed to a comprehensive approach towards neuropsychological wellness and recovery.

Dr. Busichio obtained both a Master's and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University after earning an undergraduate BA with Honors in Psychology from Seton Hall University. Dr. Busichio further honed specialized skills through a Post-Doctoral residency in Neuropsychology at the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute's Center for Head Injuries, completing rotations in both inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on cognitive assessment and rehabilitation for TBI/PCS. The clinical internship was undertaken at the NYU-Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (RIRM). Before these accomplishments, Dr. Busichio was engaged as a research and clinical associate at various esteemed institutions, including the Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation, the VA Hospital, and UMDNJ-University Hospital. Dr. Busichio also played a pivotal role as the coordinator of the Learning Disability and ADHD Clinic at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The scope of Dr. Busichio’s work in Neuropsychology spans numerous published manuscripts, abstracts, and a plethora of presentations, marking significant contributions to the field. Moreover, Dr. Busichio is an active member of the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA), further underscoring a commitment to advancing psychological sciences.
Beyond measuring the cognitive aftereffects of TBI, our evidence-based, multi-disciplinary approach enhances patient care by pinpointing treatment efforts toward the most impacted cognitive areas. This process involves prognostic assessments to track changes and recovery over time, such as improvements in post-traumatic amnesia and EEG-based concussion indices. By identifying these key areas, we can better inform and tailor rehabilitation strategies, ultimately assessing and refining the effectiveness of our interventions.

Beyond cognitive evaluations, Dr. Busichio also measures the extent of visual and electrophysiological alterations resulting from TBI through FDA-approved testing methods, including Brainscope for brain function assessment and the RightEye test for detailed oculomotor analysis.

Concussion Index Determination

· 8 FDA clearances
· 12 years of R&D
· 32 peer-reviewed publications
· 13,000+ subject evaluations
BrainScope "OBJECTIVELY" detects long-term permanent injury by evaluating the electrical activity in the brain through non-invasive EEG technology. Our group is the only private practice in NY currently offering this FDA-cleared stand-alone test for "OBJECTIVE" electrodiagnostic assessment of concussion in patients 18-50 after sports accidents, car collisions, falls, and other brain injuries.
Using EEG-based technology, Brainscope objectively elicits electrophysiological evidence of concussion longitudinally at baseline (injury), and recovery time points.
Brainscope is thoroughly validated through 12 years of development funded in part by 8 Department of Defense studies and 2 GE/NFL Head Challenge grants. BrainScope is used by the US-Navy, NFL, and many academic University-Hospital Emergency Departments.
Neuropsychology of Eye Movements
The neuropsychological analysis of eye movements plays a key role in TBI's evaluation by relating various kinds of behaviorally significant central nervous system dysfunction to predictable oculomotor abnormalities. Our advanced FDA-cleared Infra-red Eye-Tracking System and Database are backed by over 30 years of scientific research, allowing us to identify TBI-induced oculomotor abnormalities that impair binocular vision. Sophisticated Sensorimotor and vision exercises modalities combined with cognitive remediation therapy result in significantly improved patient care.
The Oculomotor battery includes a screening and an examination module.
